Equity-deserving farmers can apply to join and receive support to pursue their training and mentoring goals in the context of THE EXCHANGE: Cultivating Diversity in Agriculture. What will help you thrive in Canadian Agriculture in the long-term? You decide, then commit to the training and mentorship that will advance your career – while joining a cohort of 20 farmers also on the learning journey with you.
Mission
THE EXCHANGE is a national, cohort-centered program offered by the National Farmers Union to help maximize the long-term success of equity deserving farmers and farmworkers in Canadian agriculture, through access to training support, grant writing assistance, mentorship facilitation, and more.
Equity-deserving farmers include, but are not limited to, Indigenous farmers; Black and other racialized farmers; women farmers; youth farmers; 2SLGBTQI+ farmers, farmers with disabilities; and farmers in Official Language Minority Communities; and all farmworkers in these same groups.

Program will run over a 12-month period.
Eligibility
- To qualify for this program, applicant
- Must have a story that connects them to farming
- Must be committed to participating in all aspects of the program, including 5 training sessions and knowledge-exchange meetings.
- Residency
- Must be a non-immigrant or an immigrant with plans to be living in Canada for the long-term
- Experience:
We understand that there are a lot of barriers in farming, so we do not follow a standard rule when it comes to defining what is “farming experience”. We want to hear your story within the reality and context of your personal experience.- Have a personal story that is relevant to farming

- The first cohort began in October 2024.
- Applications for the second cohort will be accepted starting January 9 until February 28 at 12AM EST.
- 2nd cohort begins March 2025.
