Laura Fash is a first generation organic vegetable farmer who has been growing at NFU member-owned Salt & Harrow Farms in Tsawwassen, British Columbia for the past several years. With an educational background in ecological sciences and philosophy from the University of British Columbia and experience as an environmental activist, her pivot into agriculture came from recognizing the central role of our food production systems in addressing the civilizational crises of our modern era. Her involvement with the NFU began in 2020 as a Climate Action Coordinator for Region 8, which represented a through-line from working directly with land to affecting systemic change alongside generations of farmers across the country. Through agroecology, food sovereignty, and reversing the financialization of land, Laura is committed to a vision of farming and food production that can serve as the bedrock for wider societal changes towards sustainability, reconciliation, and community resilience.
