Back to the Future: Food Security and Farm Prosperity Using the Rear View Mirror

Add your voice to a lively discussion of the challenges of “local food” at the annual meeting of the National Farmers Union in New Brunswick this coming Saturday, April 2, at the Club d’Age d’Or at 3384 Route 132 in Scoudouc.

All farmers and anyone with an interest in food security and the future of the “buy local” movement is invited to join the fun.

This year’s theme is Back to the Future: Food Security and Farm Prosperity Using the Rear View Mirror. This one day meeting is open to the public and will feature special speaker Dr. Susan Machum, Canada Research Chair in Rural Social Justice at St. Thomas University. Through her research, Dr. Machum promotes the revitalization of rural communities.

The highlight of the after-dinner session will be a panel discussion of the challenges of local food, with a diverse group of stakeholders, including the NFU national Youth President, Cammie Harbottle, and Hon. Michael Olscamp, NB Minister of Agriculture, Aquaculture and Fisheries.

Everyone is welcome! The meeting will get underway at 10 a.m. and a noon time soup and sandwich buffet is included in the $20 registration fee. The cost to members is just $15 and member families can register for $40. In the tradition of the National Farmers Union, no one will be turned away.
