NFU SAYS CHANGE TO APP REVEALS HYPOCRISY OF FEDERAL GOVERNMENT

Saskatoon, Sask. – The National Farmers Union (NFU) says the federal government has revealed its true beliefs regarding the future of the Canadian Wheat Board (CWB). Earlier today, the federal government announced that the CWB would no longer be administering the Advance Payments Program (APP) for Western wheat and barley. The program will now be administered by the Canadian Canola Growers Association (CCGA).

“There is no reason why the CWB could not have continued to administer the APP. If the government really believed that a voluntary CWB was actually viable, it wouldn’t have made this change. It is completely clear that they have been disingenuous regarding the idea of a voluntary CWB,” stated NFU President Terry Boehm.

“This change really shines light on the true intentions of this federal government. It proves what we have been saying all along. This federal government has always been intent on killing off the CWB, period. This government has a serious credibility gap with Canadians, and Western farmers have real cause for concern,” said Boehm.
